Android and iOS applications, with the backend designed for mobile from the start.
Mobile applications operate under constraints that web applications do not. The network drops. Battery matters. Screen space is scarce. Users interrupt themselves constantly and expect the app to remember where they were. And every release passes through a store review process on someone else's schedule.
SMC builds Android and iOS applications with those constraints treated as design inputs rather than problems discovered late. That means deciding early whether the product needs native builds or a cross-platform approach — a decision driven by what the app has to do with the device, not by which option is cheaper on paper.
Just as important is the backend. Mobile apps fail more often because of chatty, poorly shaped APIs than because of anything in the app itself. We design endpoints around what a screen needs in a single call, handle pagination and caching deliberately, and make sure the app behaves sensibly when the connection is slow or absent.
The concrete outputs of an engagement in this area.
A reasoned recommendation on native versus cross-platform, based on device features, performance needs, and maintenance cost.
Applications built to each platform's interface conventions rather than one design forced onto both.
Endpoints shaped around screens, with payload sizes and call counts kept deliberately low.
Local caching and sensible behaviour when connectivity drops, so the app degrades gracefully instead of failing.
Camera, location, notifications, and secure local storage integrated where the product genuinely benefits.
Functional testing across screen sizes and OS versions, plus performance checks on lower-end hardware.
Preparation and submission to the Play Store and App Store, and ongoing release management afterwards.
The parts of our stack that apply to this work.
The seven phases applied specifically to mobile application development engagements.
We map the business problem, the people affected by it, and the technical constraints before a line of code is written.
We define the system structure, data model, integrations, and hosting approach so the build scales past its first release.
Screens and flows are designed around how the work actually gets done, then reviewed with you before development starts.
Engineering runs in short, reviewable increments so progress stays visible and changes stay cheap.
Functional and integration testing, plus performance and security checks, run against every release candidate.
Releases go out through a controlled process, with environments, rollback, and monitoring in place.
After launch we maintain, monitor, and extend the application as the business changes.
